Naomi Pilgrim

With the release of her debut album this week, the Dominican Swede Naomi Pilgrim should indeed be celebrating after a fabulously eventful year.  Playing at the recent Ja Ja Ja Music Night launch in Berlin run by Nordic by Nature, Pilglrim has the online critics talking of her unique sound. After touring the likes of Australia, Germany, USA, UK and Brazil, Wolf is excited to meet and introduce Naomi Pilgrim…

What got you started?
My love of music!

If you had the change to do a duet with one artist, who would it be?
Frank Ocean, please give me a call.

Who would be your dream fan?
Beyoncé... Can you even imagine?

Who was the last interesting person you encountered in the past 24 hours?
Beatrice Eli and Silvana Imam. They are both taking over the Swedish music scene and to top that they are madly in love. I would love to hear a collab between them, just saying.

What are your three favourite tracks at the moment?
Groove Armada "At The River"
Lorentz "Där dit vinden kommer"
Ghostpoet "Us Against Whatever Ever"

If you could play at or attend any European festival, which one would be at the top of your list?
Sónar Barcelona!

Do you have any weird rituals before jumping on stage?
I just dance around like nobody's watching.

If you had the chance to send a message to musicians of the future, let's say 2020, what would you say?
Hey kids, is the world alright? If not, use your voice and fight for those who society ignores.

What are you doing or where do you feel the most inspired/creative/radical?
In my kitchen, in the studio or during those spontaneous summer nights when anything can happen.

Talk us through the best performance or show you've seen? Where was it and why was it so good?
It must be when Outkast and Xzibit opened up for Eminem in Ericsson Globe Arena in 2001.
They had it all planned out and delivered a stunning show. I was ready to leave after their performance but I decided to stay anyway and it turned out to be a real good idea cause Eminem surprised the shit out of me. He was dope.

Being a musician is an extra bonus skill, right? Tell us something that you're embarrassingly unskilled at?
Drawing, if not directly related to doodling.

How do you know when your work is finished?
It's hard to know just when, especially since I often suffer from the notorious demo sickness, but to make a long story short I would say; when I'm no longer annoyed with specific details and the entire sound makes my heart pound faster.

What's coming up in the world of Naomi Pilgrim?
I have a few shows coming up this fall including Repeerbahn Festival in Hamburg. Will have a new single out this fall. I'm also working on some new material that hopefully will turn out to an EP or an album.
